TED

Dans le cadre de TED http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks

TED (Technology Entertainment Design) is an annual conference held in Monterey, California and recently, semi-annually in other cities around the world. TED describes itself as a “group of remarkable people that gather to exchange ideas of incalculable value”. Its lectures cover a broad set of topics including science, arts, politics, global issues, architecture, music and more. The speakers themselves are from a wide variety of communities and disciplines and have included such people as former US president Bill Clinton, nobel laureate James D. Watson, Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales and Google co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page. The TED Conference also has a companion conference, TED Global, held in varying locations.

Vous pouvez visionner gratuitement TOUTES les presentations sur leur site.

C’est bizarre à dire… mais cette présentation stastitique de 20 minutes est époustouflante et inspirante. Imaginez avoir ce prof à l’école.

From 1967 to 1974 he studied statistics and medicine at Uppsala University, and in 1972 he studied public health at St John’s Medical College, Bangalore. Wi-Fi gratuit à Paris. SUPERBE!

July 17, 2007

… ADSL2+ is a technology which doubles the frequency band of a typical ADSL connection over a phone line, in effect doubling the amount of data which can be sent downstream to a user.

…”France was the first country in the western world to use the technology, about two or three years ago.

via BBC

I will miss France.

Used to be called the ” The Venice Project”

It’s as cool as the ad makes it out to be. I’m now testing the beta version; Braindead, Alliance Atlantis Sci-Fi, Gamestar TV, Bridezillas, Warner Bros. Records, and World Poker Tour are all accessible on Joost, with more channels being added every day. There is also chat, IM, and searching capabilities. They even have a Bollywood channel :) (a total of 26 channels at the moment)

http://www.joost.com/download/

Not sure how to invite more people to test this… I have 0 invites left. Let me know if you are interested and when I can invite people I’ll let you know.

Should We Trust Wikipedia?

August 1, 2006

http://en.wikipedia.org/ A free content, multilingual encyclopedia written collaboratively by contributors around the world. The site is a Wiki – anybody can edit and add to an article. Offers quick understanding on controversial issues. Strong in current affairs.

Here’s what it says about Canada’s ex Prime Minister, Jean Chrétien:

Born in Shawinigan, Quebec, as the 18th of 19 children (a number of whom did not survive infancy) to Willie Chrétien and Marie Boisvert, Jean Chrétien studied law at Université Laval. Chrétien would later make light of his humble origins, calling himself “le petit gars de Shawinigan,” or the “little guy from Shawinigan.”

How about what it says about PET, another ex Canadian PM:

Trudeau was interested in Marxist ideas in the late 1940s. In the 1950s and early 1960s, he was a supporter of the social democratic Co-operative Commonwealth Federation party — which became the New Democratic Party. During the 1950s, he was blacklisted by the United States and prevented from entering that country because of a visit to a conference in Moscow (where he was briefly arrested for throwing a snowball at a statue of Stalin) and because he subscribed to a number of leftist publications. Trudeau later appealed the ban, and it was rescinded.

So, If we listen to Colbert, we could all go and edit PET’s page on Wikipedia and say he was arrested in Moscow for pissing on a Stalin shaped snowman….. he had created in the middle of Red Square. I wonder how many edits we would need in order to get this up. Who moderates Wikipedia? Do they have an agenda? Seems like they often block users.
Here’s what it says about Normand l’Amour… soon to be deleted:

Selling Your Creations Online

June 2, 2006

zup
These great watercolors are from Zu Ponca. You can buy them on eBay. Her best stuff is not even online yet ;)

I was reading a post on Seth Godin's blog and was surprised by how fast you can create something (clips, movies, paintings, ecolo handbags, podiobooks…) and find people that will be interested in buying, listening, watching and reading.

Isn't this a bit like being able to live again from "artisanat"? Away from the industrial machines…? Technology is making it possible to live in Pondichéry and sell your stuff in LA. Paypal makes it very easy for the money to be sent straight to your bank account.

I wish I had the creative side to be able to sell something. I'm sure we all have hobbies that could "sell".

Internet has had this promise for years now… but easy tools are now making it possible to actually take advantage of it.

GO and create!

Kissi is really great. She had a few typos here and there but she was typing so much that it didnt matter. She can come up with some really great stuff and is really fun. She would do want you wanted but had her own suggestions. She was kinda expensive but worth it. I really reccomend her. After we wer done she wanted to get to know me, witch was nice. She is very nice. And last but not least she is smokin hot!

I can't help but imagine the "real" people behind those. Could be your uncle Bob passing as Skittles Lollipop.
